Rules

General

  • 7 weeks regular season, 3 weeks playoffs
  • 22 min games this season (no halves)
  • Teams will have 2 timeouts to use at any point during the game (Will not lose unused first timeout prior to 3 min). In the event of overtime, each team will have 1 timeout during OT regardless of how many were used/unused during regular time.
  • Teams switch sides at 11 mins (closest dead ball)
  • Shot Clock is in effect at the 5 minute mark
    • Clock stops after made possession
    • 24 Second shot clock
    • Offensive rebounds result in 14 second shot clock
  • 8 seconds backcourt violation
  • A player who is being defended can hold a ball for no longer than 5 seconds before they must pass, shoot, or make a legitimate move towards the basket to prevent a violation. (A defender must be guarding you for rule to be in effect)
  • Must have original 2 roster players to start the game
  • Forfeited games result in +5/-5 point differential for winning and losing team
  • Ball stuck on rim results in a jump ball and possession will be rewarded to team owning the possession arrow
  • In the case of an inadvertent whistle/call, the possession will remain with the team that possessed the ball at time of call. Time of the call is not when players have heard the call/whistle, it is defined as the moment/violation for which the call/whistle was made (i.e., at time of foul rather than when call was heard after someone got a rebound for a foul that was made prior). This includes when there is a ball in the air as it will not be considered changing possessions unless the call was made for something that occurred after it was possessed by the other team.
  • Players should always play through until there is a call or whistle. Injuries can only be stopped at refs discretion during a dead ball. If a team needs injury stoppage they will be required to take a timeout (applicable if they possess the ball) or take a foul and timeout. Any timeout that takes longer than 30 seconds to sort may require usage of a team timeout (if not already called) at ref’s discretion.
  • Can only have max 2 sub players (unless due to injury)
    • If using injured player sub, player must sit out following week as well prior to return
    • If using injured player sub that is a tier below, player can return the following week
    • All injury subs and subs from the sub list are subject to review for LLC approval
  • Trade deadline Week 4 before start of Week 5 games
    • Players don’t have say in trades
  • Head ref makes final decision after taking other ref’s perspective
  • Game clock countdown will start at assigned game times
    • 2 points per minute after if 1 team is not ready
    • If both teams are late clock continues running
  • Overtime Format: 2 Minute OT with stoppages and shot clock in effect, first to 5pts or leading score after 2 minutes wins
    • Possession arrow determines which team starts with the ball
    • Team Foul count does not reset for OT (3rd foul if not near penalty amounts gets you in double bonus, auto 2 FTs)
    • Tie at end of first OT results in sudden death where next point (FT or basket) results in win.

Fouls

  • For fouls that occur when shot clock is in effect, the clock will reset to 14 if the clock was <14 or will remain the same >14
  • Shooting fouls will always result in 2 or 3 free throws depending on shot taken regardless of total team foul count
  • 6 and 9 team fouls
    • When at 6 fouls you get amount of FTs based on shot taken or 1 and 1 on everything else
    • When at 6 fouls if you make the basket while getting fouled you get to shoot an additional FT
    • When at 9 fouls you get FTs based on shot taken and auto 2 FTs on everything else
    • Clear path foul results in 2 FT’s and possession
    • A take foul (intentionally wrapping up a player to prevent a fast break) will result in one free throw and possession. The key difference between clear path and take foul is clear path there is no defender in front of the offensive player. The take foul can occur even if the defender is in front of the player possessing the ball if the intent was to stop a fast break.
    • Flagrant foul results in 2 FTs and possession
    • Illegal screens count for offensive fouls and count towards team foul count

Technical Fouls

  • 3 seconds to argue (refs discretion) – technical after
  • 2 technicals in 1 night result in expulsion, must leave the gym (no subs for player)
  • Team with possession will keep possession
  • Team will shoot 2 FTs
  • Slamming/kicking/throwing the ball will result in a technical
  • All technical fouls will be reviewed
  • If entire team is not wearing team color, will result in 1 technical foul at the start of the game (Grace period 1st week)

Fights

  • Player throwing or starting fight will be suspended
  • Player will be kicked out of current game, minimum 2 full games (subject to review) + 2 technical fouls

Last 3 mins

  • 3rd foul (if not near penalty amounts listed above) gets you in double penalty (auto 2 FTs)
  • Fouls away from the ball result in FT and possession

3 Strike Rule

  • Player will be suspended 2 games after obtaining 3 strikes in the following methods:
    • 1 strike per technical foul
    • 1 strike for arriving late for player duty (refs, scorekeeper, timekeeper)
    • 3 strikes for fighting (All physical and verbal altercations subject to LLC review)
    • 3 strikes for anything that jeopardizes rental (e.g., vaping, smelling like drugs/alcohol, cursing, fighting, etc.)
    • LLC standard for suspended player sub is two tiers below if it comes to LLC vote, otherwise up to captains discretion
  • Captains can suspend their players at their discretion for “conduct detrimental to the team”.
  • All technical fouls and strikes are subject to LLC review
